Dr. Jeff Wilusz
Good Afternoon
I'm always excited to celebrate the achievements of our students, especially when they exemplify the greatness of our school! Over the weekend, our SAISA athletes in Girls Basketball and Boys Soccer delivered outstanding performances, earning 3rd place in their respective competitions. Their hard work and dedication make me incredibly proud, and they've truly showcased the best of sportsmanship on such a grand stage.
A huge shoutout goes to Coach Chip, Coach Lauren, Coach Hourani, and Coach Cool for their tireless dedication in making this experience possible for our students. Your commitment is invaluable.
In addition, I'd like to remind all parents about the upcoming Advanced Placement (AP) testing. As our students gear up to demonstrate their knowledge and skills in these rigorous exams, here are a couple of important points to keep in mind:
Test Dates: Ensure your child is aware of their AP exam schedule (link below) and arrives promptly on the designated dates. Late arrivals may not be permitted to take the test!
Preparation: Encourage your child to continue their diligent preparation for the exams. Remind them to review course materials, practice with past exams, and get plenty of rest leading up to the testing days.
Your support in helping our students excel in their AP exams is greatly appreciated. Let's continue to encourage them as they strive for success!
AP Testing
Please note that AP exams will take place May 6-17 2024. Please note that there are exams that will take place over the Easter holiday and on Fridays. The school will be open and ready for the test takers.
You can check this link to view the AP exam schedule.
EOY Assessment Week
We wanted to inform you about some changes regarding the end-of-year school week at the high school based on valuable feedback from both our students and teachers. This year, the high school will be implementing an assessment week during the final week of classes.
During this time, students will have school from 8:00 AM to 11:30 AM (9:00 AM to 12:30 PM on Tuesday). The focus will primarily be on end-of-unit assessments for two classes each day. We understand that this may be a departure from the usual routine, but we believe it will provide a more focused and productive environment for our students as they wrap up the academic year.
To address any questions or concerns you may have about this new system, we will be hosting a Parent Chat on May 20th. We encourage you to attend to learn more about the details and rationale behind these changes. We are looking forward to seeing you all there and appreciate your ongoing support.
Thank you to the parents of departing families and graduating seniors who were able to join the K-12 Counselors for Transitions Night earlier this week. Leaving a place always brings a wide range of emotions and we were glad to see you have this opportunity to connect. For those departing families (or who have soon-to-be graduates) that weren’t able to make it, Ms. Collings and Ms. Kurdi have sent out the slide presentations for reference.
Juniors engaged in two hours of college application prep on Sunday and then another two hours on Wednesday. During the workshops, juniors dug deep into US college essays, personal statements in the UK, and motivation letters in Europe. Also, juniors received a lot of guidance about how to structure their resumes and the information and language to include and should have all started their resumes by now. We also discussed the recommendation request process, and they are well on their way to requesting recommendations from their teachers. We certainly covered a lot of ground, and the juniors are asking lots of questions to ensure they are making informed decisions. Way to go, Class of 2025!
The current round of individual junior meetings with Ms. Kurdi is still well under way. During this round, each meeting will be followed up with an email to the family for a short update and an invitation for the parents to schedule a meeting as well. All juniors’ parents are encouraged to schedule meetings with Ms. Kurdi for individual conversations about next steps. The parent meetings that took place already have been a great way to continue our partnership in supporting our students.
We are also continuing with our senior transition seminars. These optional sessions are part of a series aimed at giving our soon-to-be graduates more information about important topics before their transition into life after high school. Upcoming topics include: alcohol and substance awareness, and healthy habits. Our seniors got lots of information and asked great questions in the 3 optional sessions this week: Money Matters - Part 2, Sexual Health, and University Resources. We also hosted a family transition session, during which we facilitated important conversations about what to expect during the students’ transitions to universities.

SAISA has completed
SAISA Girls’ Basketball- The girls returned home from Muscat, Oman with their luggage a little heavier as they were carrying back the bronze medal and trophy. All nine members of the team were contributors and fought like “Warrior Poets.”
SAISA Boys’ Football/Soccer- The boys reached new peaks in the Himalayas of Nepal led by some buzzing “black and yellow” stinging play they also were able to medal bronze and stand on the podium.
SAISA Badminton- Unfortunately, our team and the ACS community were met with unforeseen conditions due to the weather in the UAE which would halt their ability to travel and make it on time to Mumbai. With that said, Coach Shunnar led a great group of student-athletes throughout the season.
AAC Interconference Track and Field Meet- Our U16/U18 girls and boys trailblazed their way to new personal bests and a few ACS school records at the ABS.
