Dr. Jeff Wilusz
Good Afternoon
As we prepare for the last week of school, you’re no doubt wondering, what’s next? Next week we have several end-year events which help close out a long year of hard work and growth.
On Monday, students will attend ALL their classes for roughly 25 minutes to ensure that they have all materials returned to teachers. They will all have been given their check-out forms in the morning and once they finish the day (hopefully with a completed form), they will return to their Cohorts to receive their yearbook.
On Tuesday, we will start the day with a HS potluck breakfast, and then say farewell to those who will not be returning to ACS in the fall. It’s a bittersweet reality of international schools everywhere - a revolving door that seems to always be moving. We will also have our End-of-Year Assembly. This compilation of student recognition will highlight students in content areas and Student Profile categories. We will finish the day with time for our students to get their yearbooks signed.
AP Summer Assignment
If your child is scheduled to take an AP class next year, they may have a summer assignment that needs to be completed prior to their arrival to school in August. Please make sure to have your child check the AP@ACS Amman website for all things AP to ensure that they will be ready for the upcoming school year.
Please note that if the Summer Assignment is not complete upon arriving at school in August, your child will be removed from the class.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the specific teacher of the AP class(es) your child is taking.
As we wrap up the year, this is a friendly reminder that next year's schedules are available to view via PowerSchool. We encourage you all to sit down with your son/daughter to review the schedule. Please note, changes to the schedule will only be entertained prior to June 9th. If you have a question/concern, we encourage you or your child to reach out to Ms. Kurdi (11-12) or Ms. Collings (9-10).
Juniors had final check-ins with Ms. Kurdi this week. All juniors have been reminded to make recommendation requests in Maia before the summer begins. The upcoming summer is a particularly busy one for juniors, who are reminded to:
Prep and sign up for SAT/ACT, if needed.
Take TOEFL/IELTS/Duolingo (because we live in a country where the official language is not English).
Finalize the balanced college list.
Start the Common Application when it opens on August 1st but don’t submit.
Continue working on the main essay/statement and email Ms.Kurdi for feedback.
Research the admission requirements and deadlines for schools on the list and add to the spreadsheet to organize information. Explore the websites and options at EACH university on the list.
Research to see if an interview is offered or required at each school.
Create a scholarship spreadsheet to list deadlines and requirements.
Register for LNAT, UCAT or any other required UK/Europe admission tests.
Participate in summer experiences (research, reading, internships, fun stuff, online classes).
Complete the Brag Sheet on Maia and ask parents/guardians to complete the Parent Survey.
It’s a long list, but the more juniors get done over the summer, the smoother the college application process next year. Of course, there should be plenty of time for rest and relaxation too! In fact, we hope all high school students enjoy their summers thoroughly and learn new things about themselves and the world!
