Ms. Michelle Alzamora
Dear Families,
As your children continue to navigate their school journey, we believe it is essential to emphasize the importance of fostering independence and confidence in problem-solving. When students feel empowered to tackle challenges on their own, they develop valuable life skills that will benefit them well beyond the classroom.
One of the most effective ways to encourage independence is to provide opportunities for your child to practice problem-solving. This could involve encouraging them to find solutions to everyday challenges, such as tying their shoes, packing their backpack, or completing homework assignments without assistance. By allowing them to take ownership of these tasks, you are helping them build self-reliance and a sense of accomplishment.
We are excited to share a video that was recently shown to all students about our "Scorpion Solvers." This group of dedicated students is available during recess and they were trained by Ms. Hayley and Ms. Katie to help students solve small problems.
We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the students who have volunteered to be Scorpion Solvers. Their commitment to helping others and their positive attitudes are invaluable assets to our school community.
By working together as parents, teachers, and students, we can create a nurturing environment that fosters independence, problem-solving skills, and a lifelong love of learning.
Yours,
Michelle

We have almost completed our Fall MAP assessments. Students will be wrapping up next week and finishing any make-up assessments. Our next step in the process is to close our test window and wait for the final results from NWEA. Once we have the data, we will be looking at trends, comparing MAP data to our other assessments, and considering how we adjust our strategies for groups and individuals. We will never use MAP data in isolation when considering individuals or trends about learning. We will consider this one snapshot in time with everything that we know about our learners.
We are also looking forward to sharing the MAP results with parents. We invite you to join us on October 30 at 8:15 in the morning for a special MAP Parent Chat. This presentation will be recorded for parents that are not able to join us.
Chances are your child's emotions fluctuate quite often! Over time, this may make you feel stuck as a parent around how to support your child and yourself in addressing emotional outbursts. It is taxing work. To possibly help, we've added another tool to our ES Counseling Website - Check out these Tools to Try posters you can print and hang in your home to remind yourself and family members that there are tools you can use. The tools are best used together, as a family - not just for the kids!
We are here and happy to support you if you have any questions or would like to discuss ways to create a calmer home environment.
