Ms. Michelle Alzamora
Dear Families,
Our students had a great time with Spirit Week! Thank you to our student council committee for organizing a fun and inclusive experience for all students. I especially appreciated wearing PJs to school today :)
I look forward to connecting with our parents of 2nd - 10th graders next Monday morning to share how to read the MAP reports. If you can’t join us in room 127, we will record the presentation and share it with you in the WGO next Thursday.
A couple of weeks ago we highlighted the importance of a healthy diet for our young learners. This week, we want to share the importance of a healthy sleep routine. Sleep is an essential part of our daily routine, and it is important for children to understand the importance of getting enough sleep. Not only does sleep help our bodies rest and recharge, but it also plays a vital role in our overall health and well-being.
When we sleep, our bodies are working hard to repair and grow. During the deep sleep phase, our muscles and tissues are repaired and our growth hormones are released. This is especially important for children, as they are still growing and developing.
Additionally, sleep is important for our mental and emotional health. It helps our brains process information and form new memories. It also helps regulate our moods and emotions, which can be especially important for children who are still learning how to express themselves.
However, many children do not get enough sleep. The recommended amount of sleep for children varies by age, but most children between the ages of 6 and 12 need about 9-12 hours of sleep each night. It is important for parents and caregivers to help create a bedtime routine that allows children to get the sleep they need.
This can include turning off screens and electronics at least an hour before bed, reading a book, or listening to calming music. It can also include creating a comfortable and dark sleeping environment.
If your child is having trouble getting a good night’s sleep please reach out to our counselors who can help by sharing some strategies.
Yours,
Michelle

We have completed our Fall MAP assessments. Our next step in the process is to close our test window and wait for the final results from NWEA. Once we have the data, we will be looking at trends, comparing MAP data to our other assessments, and considering how we adjust our strategies for groups and individuals. We will never use MAP data in isolation when considering individuals or trends about learning. We will consider this one snapshot in time with everything that we know about our learners.
We are also looking forward to sharing the MAP results with parents. We invite you to join us on September 30 at 8:15 in the morning in Room 127 for a special MAP Parent Chat. This presentation will be recorded for parents that are not able to join us.
Chances are your child's emotions fluctuate quite often! Over time, this may make you feel stuck as a parent around how to support your child and yourself in addressing emotional outbursts. It is taxing work. To possibly help, we've added another tool to our ES Counseling Website - Check out these Tools to Try posters you can print and hang in your home to remind yourself and family members that there are tools you can use. The tools are best used together, as a family - not just for the kids!
We are here and happy to support you if you have any questions or would like to discuss ways to create a calmer home environment.
