Dr. Jeff Wilusz
Good Afternoon
This past Tuesday, ACS hosted a highly successful Career Day—an inspiring demonstration of our commitment to educating the whole child.
Ms. Kurdi and her team led the charge with excellence, recruiting a diverse slate of community speakers and organizing a seamless, enriching experience for students. Each speaker came prepared, offering thoughtful, real-world insight that broadened students’ understanding of professional pathways and personal potential.
Opportunities like this go beyond academics. They spark curiosity, build confidence, and connect students to purpose, core to our ethos at ACS. We’re proud to offer these experiences, and grateful to all who made it possible.
Junior/Senior Prom
The Prom Committee is excited to announce that Prom will be held on the 17th of April from 7-10 at OLEA in the Four Seasons. The theme is Hollywood Glamour, so people can wear any dress or suit as long as it is correlated with the theme.
The Prom Committee will be selling tickets every day in the LC during lunch from 16 March until 16 April. Tickets will cost 65 JD, and are only open to 11th and 12th graders. Seniors can invite students from younger grades as a plus one as well as people from outside of ACS, provided that they give I.D. in advance. As prom is a school event, we will be filtering songs, checking bags, and making sure that there is no alcohol.
Our team kindly asks for you to encourage your children to attend so we can have the best Prom possible!
Lastly, we wanted to bring to your attention an annual tradition that has occurred after the prom in the past, known as the "post-prom" event. Please be aware that this event is not in any way associated with ACS, and we do not endorse or condone it.
In previous years, students have organized this independent event, selling tickets off-campus at an additional cost. The event typically extends into the early morning and includes an open bar. We want to emphasize that ACS neither promotes nor supports the "post-prom" event.
We strongly encourage you to have an open conversation with your children before giving them permission to attend any such event. It's essential for everyone to be well-informed about the nature of the activities and potential risks associated with independent post-prom events.
If you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to reach out to us. Your cooperation and support are crucial in ensuring the safety and well-being of our students.
Assessment Week (May 28–June 2)
The week of May 27 marks our formal Assessment Week. Final unit assessments will be administered across all subject areas, and this is the scheduled opportunity for students to demonstrate their learning before grades are finalized.
Please note: Early assessments will not be offered. Absences during this week may significantly impact final grades, as teachers rely on this window to gather the data needed for end-of-term evaluations. As we approach the end of the semester, please note the following updates regarding dismissal times and final assessments:
Wednesday, May 28, Thursday, May 29; Sunday, June 1; and Monday, June 2: Dismissal at 11:35 AM
Tuesday, June 3: Assessment Makeups, 8 Block Day/Student Checkout
Wednesday, June 4: Final day of the semester
Lastly, Final report cards will be available in PowerSchool on Wednesday, June 4.
The Student Council is looking for performers for the Cultural Carnival April 15th This is a wonderful performance opportunity for you (and your friends) to celebrate diversity through the performing arts! Please see the flyer and scan the QR code for more information.
The High School was buzzing on Tuesday! During our Career Day, we hosted 30 speakers from a range of professions within the ACS community and students thoroughly enjoyed hearing about their diverse career paths. A huge thank you to the speakers and also to the Career Day Committee and ushers!
We were pleased to welcome a representative from Trinity College Dublin this week, who shared valuable insights into the admissions process as well as life in Ireland.
Our Senior Transition Seminars also continued this week with important sessions on financial planning led by Mr. Wilusz and on drug and alcohol awareness by Mr. McBride. These seminars are designed to support our seniors as they prepare for life beyond high school.
Juniors engaged in an activity this week that focused on building balanced college lists and in sessions exploring application guidelines based on various destinations. They also got to hear about the details of the US application process directly from the Senior Assistant Director of International Admissions from George Washington University.
