Dr. Jeff Wilusz
Good Afternoon
As we wrapped up this week’s High School Learning Series, “Communication of Results” and with report cards being available via PowerSchool on January 30th, we felt that right now is a great opportunity to encourage your children to reflect thoughtfully on their first semester and embrace the chance for a fresh start. While reflection can be challenging, focusing on the positive aspects and celebrating their successes can significantly shape a mindset geared toward growth and future success.
Just as we expect our students to reflect, we as a high school also took a look back on the first semester using survey feedback we received from students last week. The anonymous survey produced a number of actional steps our teachers can take to help ensure students are continuing to feel as though they can be successful in class. Some of the highlights from the 1465 responses include:
86.9% of our students agreed & strongly agreed that they felt supported by our teachers
84.7% of our students agreed & strongly agreed that they felt prepared for assessments
90.1% of our students agreed & strongly agreed that they can easily access materials on Google Classroom
85.7% of our students agreed & strongly agreed that they can be successful in their classes
Open communication remains at the heart of supporting our students effectively and each teacher will be reviewing their individual classes feedback with students by the end of next week. Creating a supportive environment where students thrive both academically and personally continues to be our pursuit day in and day out.
25-26 Course Selection Documents
Below, I have provided all the documents you will need in order to be prepared for helping your son/daughter select their courses for next year.
Please make sure that you have reviewed the 4 Year Plan and the Program of Studies prior to the scheduled meeting your child has selected with either Ms. Kurdi, Ms. Collings, or Mr. Wilusz.
Lastly, take note of the following Course Selection dates:
February 3rd @ 8:00 a.m. - 11th Graders
February 5th @ 8:00 a.m. - 10th Graders
February 4th @ 11:00 a.m. - 9th Graders
**Please note that a question was asked during the presentation about where you can find a student's GPA. We realized that our response was not accurate on the parent/student side of PowerSchool. We have remedied this and you will be able to see your child's GPA (semester & cumulative) on the upcoming report card.
HS Learning Series: Assessment Purpose - Thank you to everyone who was able to make it to Wednesday’s HS Learning Series around Communication of Results. As promised, the following are the documents/videos we went over:
We house our Learning Series sessions in the “Important Dates & Quick Links” section of the WGO for you to access at your convenience. We look forward to seeing you all again at our next Learning Series in March!
Thank you to those parents who were able to join us on Tuesday for the Course Selection Parent Meeting. Students have been busy considering the plethora of course options available to them next year. All students in grades nine through eleven have received information about the course selection process and students in grades nine and ten drafted their 4 year plans during Flex. Over the next few weeks, students are encouraged to talk with their parents and teachers about recommendations regarding courses for next year, as well as thoroughly review the Program of Studies. Additionally, students have been invited for individual meetings with an administrator or counselor to review their course selections and ask questions; students in grade 9 will meet with Mr Wilusz, students in grade 10 will meet with Ms Collings, and students in grade 11 will meet with Ms Kurdi. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions, or to have a discussion regarding your student’s course choices.
Seniors who are US citizens are encouraged to fill out the FAFSA, which is now open! Lots of online videos and resources are available to guide students and parents through the process.
