Dr. Jeff Wilusz
Good Afternoon
Once we return from Spring Break, the pace of the school year picks up quickly. Teachers will be diving into the last units of their courses, AP classes will shift into full review mode, and AP exams will take place during the first two weeks of May. Additionally, nearly every week after the break has some form of interruption—whether from holidays or other events—making time management even more important for students.
We also recognize that the fast-paced nature of April and May can be daunting for some students. Our counseling team is aware of this and readily available to provide support. If you notice anything “off” at home in relation to school—whether it’s stress, anxiety, or a shift in motivation—please don’t hesitate to reach out. It is 100% appropriate to connect with us so we can work together to support your child.
With that in mind, we encourage students to stay organized, plan ahead, and take advantage of the resources available to support their learning. If you have any questions or need guidance, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Lastly, as we approach the eve of Eid/Spring break, I encourage you to take some time to reconnect with family and enjoy some well-deserved rest.
Thank you for your continued support of our students and ACS!
MAP Testing - Our 9th and 10th grade students will be taking their MAP tests on Monday & Thursday when we return. We will be running an adjusted schedule for each of those days. Grade 11 & 12 students will be working with Ms. Kurdi on college-related activities.
Career Day - We’re excited to host Career Day at the high school on April 8, a day designed to open students’ eyes to the wide world of careers out there. Guest speakers from a range of fields like Film, Engineering, Entrepreneurship, Medicine, and more, will be sharing their stories, offering real-world insight, and helping students imagine the many paths their futures could take. It’s all about inspiration, curiosity, and connection. We can’t wait to see where the conversations lead.
Attendance Reminder - We have noticed an uptick in students being pulled from school throughout the day and want to remind families of the attendance expectations as stated in the HS Family Handbook:
ACS is committed to the view that consistent school attendance is vital to the long term academic learning and personal success of each student--nothing can make up for time missed from a classroom environment involving discussions, lectures, experiments, and other collaborative experiences. Therefore, we do not differentiate between “excused” and “unexcused” absences.
Junior/Senior Prom - The Prom Committee is excited to announce that Prom will be held on the 17th of April from 7-10 at OLEA in the Four Seasons. The theme is Hollywood Glamour, so people can wear any dress or suit as long as it is correlated with the theme.
The Prom Committee will be selling tickets every day in the LC during lunch from 16 March until 16 April. Tickets will cost 65 JD, and are only open to 11th and 12th graders. Seniors can invite students from younger grades as a plus one as well as people from outside of ACS, provided that they give I.D. in advance. As prom is a school event, we will be filtering songs, checking bags, and making sure that there is no alcohol.
Our team kindly asks for you to encourage your children to attend so we can have the best Prom possible!
Lastly, we wanted to bring to your attention an annual tradition that has occurred after the prom in the past, known as the "post-prom" event. Please be aware that this event is not in any way associated with ACS, and we do not endorse or condone it.
In previous years, students have organized this independent event, selling tickets off-campus at an additional cost. The event typically extends into the early morning and includes an open bar. We want to emphasize that ACS neither promotes nor supports the "post-prom" event.
We strongly encourage you to have an open conversation with your children before giving them permission to attend any such event. It's essential for everyone to be well-informed about the nature of the activities and potential risks associated with independent post-prom events.
If you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to reach out to us. Your cooperation and support are crucial in ensuring the safety and well-being of our students.
The Student Council is looking for performers for the Cultural Carnival April 15th This is a wonderful performance opportunity for you (and your friends) to celebrate diversity through the performing arts! Please see the flyer and scan the QR code for more information.
It is hard to believe that we are here already, but we are in the early stages of welcoming new students to campus next year. Thank you to all of the students who submitted applications to be New Student Ambassadors to welcome their new classmates, and help plan New Student Orientation.
We were pleased to welcome an admissions officer from the University of Chicago this week, who shared valuable insights into the admissions process and thoughtfully answered questions from our students.
Our Senior Transition Seminars also kicked off this week with an important session on sexual health awareness, led by Ms. Shez. These seminars are designed to support our seniors as they prepare for life beyond high school.
Looking ahead, the week after the break is packed with opportunities. On April 8, we will host Career Day, where students will hear from a range of professionals within the ACS community about their diverse career paths. On April 7 and April 10, we’ll follow special schedules to accommodate grade-specific programming. Juniors will focus on building balanced college lists and exploring application guidelines based on various destinations. Seniors will continue their transition seminars, with sessions on financial literacy and navigating university resources.
