Dr. Jeff Wilusz
Good Afternoon
As we wrap up the eleventh week, our students and staff have been fully engaged, navigating a variety of projects, papers, discussions, debates, and meaningful conversations. Each day, teachers and students alike bring their best efforts, committed to growth and learning. Mr. McBride and I enjoy visiting classrooms, watching students collaborate and engage deeply with each other, building not only their own skills but also strengthening the group as a whole.
Benjamin Mays once said, "The tragedy of life is often not in our failure, but rather in our complacency; not in our doing too much, but rather in our doing too little; not in our living above our ability, but rather in our living below our capacities." This perspective resonates with our mission in the High School, where we strive daily to inspire students to reach for their potential inside and outside the classroom. It’s a delicate balance—encouraging them to grow without overwhelming them, as you know. Our commitment is to nurture well-rounded individuals, a goal that deserves our continuous focus. From promoting athletic engagement and applauding our arts performers to actively participating in our Cohort time and supporting community involvement like "Service Saturdays," we aim to offer students a wide range of meaningful experiences. For a detailed look at what’s happening each week, please check out the HS Weekly Update link below.
HS Learning Series: Hope, Efficacy, & Achievement - Join us for our upcoming (November 20th) HS Learning Series, focusing on Hope, Efficacy, & Achievement. This session will explore the strategies for fostering a hopeful mindset, building self-efficacy, and boosting academic success. Parents will gain some insight on the practical tools teachers use to inspire resilience and motivation, helping students reach their full potential in both their academic and personal growth. We will also address questions/feedback from our first Learning Series session.
HS Assessment Week Reminder - This year, the high school will be implementing an assessment week during the final week of classes (December 15-19). During this time, students will have school from 8:00 AM to 11:30 AM (9:00 AM to 12:30 PM on Tuesday). The focus will primarily be on end-of-unit assessments for two classes each day.
We believe this system provides a more focused and productive environment for our students as they wrap up the academic semester. We will discuss this more in detail on November, 20th during our HS Learning Series chat
HS Graduation Reminder - We are pleased to inform you that initial contact has been made with officials in Jerash regarding our graduation ceremony. We have requested that the ceremony take place on Wednesday, May 28, in line with past graduations. However, please be aware that we typically receive official confirmation in February or March.
We understand the importance of making travel arrangements for family and guests, and we appreciate your patience with this process. The date remains tentative until confirmation, and we will share updates as soon as they become available. Thank you for your understanding and support.
Our seniors applying early to U.S. universities have submitted those applications! Ms. Kurdi’s office was buzzing all week but especially on Friday as she assisted with any last-minute tasks. Good luck to all ACS seniors in their applications all over the world! FLEX sessions this week include ApplyNetherlands, and next week we have ApplyUSA, ApplyUK, and ApplyUC’s.
A big thanks to all juniors’ families that attended college night with Ms.Kurdi on Sunday evening. This is the presentation that was shared.
All seniors’ families are reminded to submit the CSS profile to US universities that require it for financial aid. Also, the following came into Ms.Kurdi’s inbox from UC San Diego and is a good reminder for all US citizens regarding their applications: “The Department of Education has delayed the release of the 2025-26 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to December 1, 2024. This delay provides extra time for students to gather necessary documents and ensure a smooth application process once the form becomes available. Students and families are encouraged to prepare early. Mixed-status families, in particular, should consider starting the process to obtain their FSA-ID now, as it is required to complete the FAFSA.”

We hosted a college visit this week from UC Davis and Foothill&DeAnza Colleges, and we have several fairs planned for November. It’s great that our students have the opportunity to meet with so many college representatives in person, and parents are more than welcome to attend too! We are dedicated to building strong relationships with universities and creating valuable experiences for our students.
