Dr. Jeff Wilusz
Good Afternoon
We appreciate your understanding as we experienced a few unexpected holidays last week and have one more scheduled for the coming week. Our teachers are committed to minimizing any impact on their classes and will work diligently to stay on track.
Two of the key programs in our high school are Cohort and FLEX, which occur four (Cohort) and five (FLEX) days a week, with Cohort lasting 20 minutes and FLEX 30 minutes. You’ve likely heard your son or daughter mention these programs, but we wanted to provide a bit more detail on what they involve.
Cohort is designed to ensure that every student has at least one adult mentor and advisor in a small group setting. These sessions focus on supporting students' social and emotional well-being, providing extra study time, covering essential high school information, checking academic progress, organizing assemblies, promoting team-building activities, and offering college counseling. FLEX time allows students to remain in their previous class to receive extra help, ask questions, or catch up on work. Students can also make appointments with other teachers for additional support, to complete assignments or assessments, or to meet with a coach or advisor. If they don’t need specific help, they can use the time to work independently or collaborate with their peers.
HS Learning Series - We are excited to introduce our Learning Series, a new initiative designed to enhance clarity and understanding of our instructional and assessment planning in the high school. Through these 30-40 minute sessions, we aim to foster greater stakeholder engagement by helping parents gain insight into the core elements of our teaching practices, the educational principles behind them, and their implementation throughout the school. Our first session will take place virtually on Google Meet on September 24 at 8:15 a.m. If you can't join us live, don't worry—each session will be recorded and made available via the WGO. We look forward to seeing you there!
Seniors are continuing to do their research and complete their applications. They are a very diverse group applying to a huge range of universities across the globe! This means that the steps they take now are tailored to their needs, goals and aspirations, and we’ll continue to meet individually to make sure they are making informed decisions and progressing in a timely fashion. We had an ApplyUSA session to work on the CommonApp as well as an ApplyUKMedicine session for those applying to study medicine in the UK. Seniors’ parents are encouraged to monitor their student’s progress and to keep Ms. Kurdi in the loop with feedback and insights.

CALLING ALL HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS AND PARENTS TO ATTEND COLLEGE FAIRS!!
Our community’s continued engagement with universities is very important. PARENTS, please attend the fairs! We hosted almost 100 university representatives on our campus last year, and we continue to maintain positive relationships with representatives from universities across the globe. All students and parents are highly encouraged to attend. Not only is it very helpful to students and their families to engage with universities directly, but also some universities track student interest! It also demonstrates to the university our community’s interest in our students’ futures and our commitment to student empowerment.
