Dr. Jeff Wilusz
Good Afternoon
After a long week, I’d like to share some insights from an educational article titled "Creating Safe Learning Environments for Students." The article emphasizes the importance of fostering a secure and supportive atmosphere where our students can thrive.
Published in the September 2023 issue of Education Today, the piece highlights the critical role parents and guardians play in helping create a safe learning space for students. As our teenagers navigate the challenges of high school, it is essential that they feel supported and protected to reach their full potential.
A key point from the article is the value of open and honest communication. It encourages parents to engage in meaningful discussions with their children about school experiences, concerns, and challenges. Early identification of potential issues through these conversations allows us to address them proactively.
The article also stresses the importance of fostering empathy and inclusivity. By modeling these values as parents, we help our students grow into compassionate and accepting individuals. This not only contributes to a safer school environment but also promotes their emotional well-being.
Let’s continue to work together in creating a supportive and nurturing space for our high school students. By maintaining open dialogue, staying involved, and promoting inclusivity, we can ensure our children flourish academically, emotionally, and socially during these formative years.

MAP Reports
MAP reports for students in grades 2-10 will be available in PowerSchool on the afternoon of September 29th. We will host a Parent Chat with a focus on how to read MAP reports on September 30, 2024, from 8:15 - 9:00 in room 127. This chat will be recorded for parents who are not able to join us.
We invite you to participate in the Fall 2024 Parent Teacher Conferences. There are no classes for students on these dates.
Please understand that the PowerSchool sign-up process applies only to Elementary homeroom, Learning Support, and Counselor conferences.
In High School, we encourage your child to join your PTC, as this is a great opportunity to assist them in taking responsibility for their own learning.

Good afternoon, we hope you all had a wonderful week! It’s hard to believe that it is the end of September already and Parent-Teacher Conferences are right around the corner. Tenth graders have been busy meeting with Ms. Collings and getting reacquainted with Maia Learning, our college planning platform. Maia Learning has many tools and assessments that we use in earlier years to help our students with personal growth and self-reflection. All tenth graders are also starting to meet individually with Ms. Collings for their first 10th Grade Check-In Meeting of the year.
Our seniors are very busy completing applications and polishing essays, and we found time for an ApplyCanada session to work on the OUAC application that opened this week. Next week, we’ll have another ApplyCanada session as well as a couple of ApplyUK sessions. Seniors’ parents are reminded to complete the Parent Survey on MaiaLearning and the agreement that was shared by email. Parents can contact Ms. Ellen if they are not sure how to log in to MaiaLearning, our college and career planning platform. Individual meetings continue with Ms. Kurdi this month for all seniors, but of course, the office has been full of students making final edits to their essays and supplements.
You’re encouraged to visit our College Counseling website where some highlights are:

We welcomed university representatives from 13 institutions of higher learning last week. We’re thrilled to see our students so engaged, asking great questions, and getting valuable information directly from universities. We are hosting two more universities, the University of Toronto and Boston University, next week and would like to remind students of the importance of connecting directly with universities.
Here are the dates and registration deadlines for the upcoming SAT test for those who are planning on taking the tests. Please note that there is no late registration.
