Dr. Jeff Wilusz
Good Afternoon
Things are moving right along in the high school as we complete our 4th week. In particular, there has been a lot of excitement surrounding the great options for students to get involved in activities that have been pushed out by Mr. Chip in the Activities Department. If your son/daughter wasn’t able to find something to latch onto this semester, please encourage them to see Mr. Chip during FLEX and have a chat about starting a club that does excite them.
MAP Testing - The 9th and 10th grade students successfully completed their MAP tests on Sunday & Wednesday, with an adjusted schedule that ran smoothly and without disruptions. Simultaneously, the 11th and 12th graders engaged in productive college-related activities led by Ms. Kurdi, making significant progress in their preparations for post-secondary education. Both events will be repeated again in the second semester with a similar format.
HS Learning Series - We are excited to introduce our Learning Series, a new initiative designed to enhance clarity and understanding of our instructional and assessment planning in the high school. Through these 30-40 minute sessions, we aim to foster greater stakeholder engagement by helping parents gain insight into the core elements of our teaching practices, the educational principles behind them, and their implementation throughout the school. Our first session will take place virtually on Google Meet on September 24 at 8:15 a.m. If you can't join us live, don't worry—each session will be recorded and made available via the WGO. We look forward to seeing you there!
It was so nice to see so many of you at Back to School Night last Monday! Ms. Collings is currently continuing the meetings with 9th grade students during Flex to give them an orientation to the high school counseling program, and answer any questions they may have. Individual check-in meetings with all 9th graders and new students have started. As always, if you have any questions or concerns with how your student is adjusting to the new school year, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Seniors are busy as bees right now as they are making big strides in the application processes. This week, we had two Apply USA sessions to work on the CommonApp, two essay workshops with our English teachers, and a MaiaLearning setup workshop. Seniors also emailed their parent(s) with a checklist to show how far they have come in the application process. Seniors’ parents are encouraged to monitor their student’s progress and to keep Ms. Kurdi in the loop with feedback and insights. Seniors and their parents are continuing to meet with Ms. Kurdi individually to talk about the application process and future plans.
Our juniors explored some university terminology this week, and also played a fun game of Kahoot to kick start their college application navigation - lots of college swag was up for grabs! They also took a much closer look at MaiaLearning, our college and career planning platform. They took an interest survey that then connected their profile to some careers worth considering. This self-exploration is an exciting step for our rapidly developing juniors as they continue to think of the pathways they might explore after High School. All parents have MaiaLearning accounts as well, and if you’re not sure how to login to your account, feel free to contact Ms. Ellen.

All students and parents are highly encouraged to attend our college visits and fairs. We hosted almost 100 university representatives on our campus last year, and we continue to maintain positive relationships with representatives from universities across the globe. Not only is it very helpful to students and their families to engage with universities directly, but also some universities track student interest! Below are our upcoming visits:
