Ms. Molly Nielsen
Dear Middle School Families,
I look forward to seeing many of you at the PTG Back To School Picnic this Friday!
Highlights from the week:
Grade-level assemblies took place this week to build community and kick off MS athletics and activities!
Teachers have transitioned out of norming and back to school procedures. I saw students in classrooms engaging in collaborative problem-solving, critical thinking, and perspective-taking.
SAISA swimming tryouts took place!
MS sports and ASA’s sign-ups have opened for sign-ups in Powerschool.
Students have done a fantastic job learning their schedules, following school expectations, and connecting with new students.
Remember to sign up for the MS Active Parenting Class! Please read the counseling section below for the sign-up form. The Activities Department has also made big announcements below!
Finally, please be sure to email the MS Office Assistant Ms. Aseel when your child misses school. Her email address is azawaneh@acsamman.edu.jo. She keeps our attendance records and needs to be notified. You are welcome to copy your child’s advisor and teachers in as well.
More Information - Middle Back to School Night
Please join us Wednesday, August 28, in the theater at 5:00 pm for the MS Back to School Night. The evening will start with a presentation from MS admin followed by a meet and greet with your child’s teachers in the pergola. On Monday, August 26, the MS Office will send you an email with pictures of the MS teaching staff. Under each teacher's photo, you will find a course overview document for the classes they teach. We strongly encourage you to review the course overview documents before Back To School Night to have a big-picture overview of your child’s classes and familiarize yourself with teacher names.
Unit Cover Sheets Coming Soon!
Based on community feedback, the MS is preparing to roll out a new system for the 24-25 school year to support communication around learning. Soon, the WGO will have a section dedicated to storing unit cover sheets. Teachers will post a unit cover sheet for each unit they teach throughout the school year. The unit cover sheet will share a big-picture overview of the unit your child is starting. It will give you an idea of the significant concepts, content, assessments, and pacing. I will announce new cover sheets in the WGO to ensure you have up to date communication. We will continue to see feedback on this system and refine our practices this year. I look forward to hearing your feedback.
Warmly,
Molly
We are so happy to be back on campus and without fail, the middle school energy is second to none. Feel free to reach out anytime. I’m happy to be a thought partner on all things tweens and look forward to working with you this year.
If you’re looking for an opportunity for yourself then I would encourage you to consider signing up for our MS parenting class. Read below for more information and to sign up.
Middle School Parenting Class Offering!
Join us starting September 3rd at 5:30 PM for a 6 week parenting class. Learn and practice parenting skills relevant to raising tweens/teens like how to build cooperation, support your child in solving their problems, and different types of consequences and how/when to use them.
Additionally, this is a great chance to build some connections with other middle school parents and grow together.
Click here for all the information and to sign up. Space is limited.
Athletics and Activities website- This is our central hub for athletics and activities information
This past week we saw our MS SAISA athletes splash their way back into the pool for swimming tryouts which has been a definite highlight.
ASA's (After School Activities)- Registration opened this week for signups via PowerSchool and the signup window will close on August 27th @ 10 am. (Please note if you miss the signup window, we cannot promise that you will be able to register). Additionally, ASAs are not first come first serve, however, all activities have a capacity cap. We ask that you sign up for your top three choices (if you only want to select 1 activity, please add it for all 3 choices). We try to get everyone at least one of their top choices if not all. Again, there are caps regarding how many students can be in a particular ASA so if your child doesn't get into a certain one, they may be able to get into another.
