Ms. Molly Nielsen
Dear MS Families,
This week we had the pleasure to celebrate our MS drama students and the work they have been doing through improv theater. Students shared their skills in front of their peers. The actors took huge risks and had the crowd cracking up. Thanks to Ms. Pike and her students!
Supporting Learner Variability
At ACS, we are committed to planning for learner variability within our student body. Our collaborative meeting structures, student support teams, and professional learning support teachers in their instructional planning. Learner variability refers to the differences among learners regarding their cognitive abilities, learning styles, preferences, strengths, weaknesses, background knowledge, experiences, and socio-emotional characteristics. It acknowledges that students are unique in how they learn and process information.
These differences can manifest in various ways, such as:
Cognitive variability: Differences in intellectual abilities, problem-solving skills, memory capacity, and processing speed.
Learning style variability: Varied preferences for how students prefer to receive and process information, such as visual, auditory, kinesthetic, or tactile learners.
Socio-emotional variability: Differences in social skills, emotional regulation, motivation, self-esteem, and resilience.
Background knowledge and experiences: Variances in prior knowledge, cultural backgrounds, languages spoken, and life experiences that influence learning.
Understanding and addressing learner variability is essential to creating inclusive learning environments where all students can thrive. We are committed to reviewing and learning new instructional strategies, accommodations, and supports to meet all our learners' needs.
