Ms. Molly Nielsen
Dear MS Families,
We are celebrating the end of August and rolling into September with cooler temps on the horizon.
MAP Testing Update
This week, your child took the Reading and Math MAP test. If your child misses one of the days, do not worry, Ms. Aseel will coordinate their make-up with them. Next week, we will wrap up MAP testing on Thursday, September 12, with the Language test. After all students have completed the tests, you will receive information about your child's performance on the MAP assessment. For more about the MAP assessment, please click on the MAP Family Toolkit.
Cover Sheets
Unit 1 cover sheets for Math, ELA, Social Studies, Science, and Health are posted below. We will keep you updated as we post additional classes next week. The unit cover sheet intends to share a big-picture overview of the unit your child is starting. The cover sheet is a student-friendly document that gives students and families an idea of the current unit's significant concepts, content, assessments, and pacing. I will continue to seek feedback on this system and refine our practices this year. Please shoot me an email letting me know your thoughts about our first iteration of this new system. I look forward to hearing from you!
Supporting Risk Taking In Your Pre-Teen
Nurturing risk-taking in pre-teens is essential for their development into confident, resilient individuals. Risk-taking doesn't necessarily mean encouraging dangerous behavior but rather supporting them in trying new things, facing challenges, and learning from mistakes.
These learning experiences are important because they help to develop:
Confidence and self-esteem
Problem solving skills
Resilience
Independence
Creativity
Of course, you know your child best, but here are some ideas to try out:
Tiring out a new activity, sport, or hobby
Outdoor adventures like rock climbing or biking
Taking the lead on an email with a teacher or the school counselor about a problem or concern that has come up
Running an errand independently
Warmly,
Molly
Ask your student if they’ve tried the MSHSLC Orientation QUIZ.
Prizes to winners!
Quiz ends Sunday, Sept. 8th, 2024
