Ms. Joelle Basnight
Many thanks to all who attended the Back to School Nights over the past two weeks. I hope you had a chance to put “a name with a face” for your child(ren)’s teacher and feel connected to their education.
You will have another opportunity to meet the teachers more purposefully on Thursday, October 10, for our first semester conferences. Please look out for more information about this opportunity in the coming weeks.
A reminder that we have two shortened weeks coming up.
Campus will be closed on Tuesday, September 10th, in observance of the Parliamentary Elections.
Campus will be closed on Sunday, September 15th AND Monday, September 16th to observe the Prophet’s Birthday.
An additional note about the Prophet’s Birthday holiday. It has always been our norm to honor the holidays announced in the school calendar as many families plan around the holidays that are announced. Yesterday afternoon, the government declared the Prophet’s Birthday Monday, the 16th. Many area schools and businesses, including us, had already calendared this holiday for Sunday, the 15th. We know some community members already have plans for the long weekend. Therefore, and in consultation with school leadership, I have decided not to move the holiday but, instead, to honor the calendar and add the 16th. This was not an easy choice, as I never like losing school days, however, the late notice of the change made choosing the longer weekend preferable to lower attendance and sub coverage.
With future lunar holidays, should ACS get adequate notice, we will move the lunar holidays, rather than suspending classes for additional days. I understand this can be unsettling and make it difficult to firm up plans. My apologies for this inconvenience and, yet, my first duty as Superintendent is to ensure that your child(ren)’s education is as robust as possible. To do that, we need to be on campus and in class!
We are excited to announce a new feature on the ACS App to streamline our transportation services. You can now indicate if your child will not be riding the bus directly through the app. The system will then email the admin assistants, the bus liaison, and the bus drivers. This update helps us streamline communication and reroute buses more efficiently, ensuring smooth operations for everyone.
We encourage all parents to use this feature whenever needed to support our efforts in improving transportation services.
Thank you for your continued cooperation. Below is a video of the feature:
