Ms. Michelle Alzamora
Dear ES Families,
It’s time for one of our favorite events of the year! Our Student-Led Conferences are scheduled for March 19th. Whether you are joining us in person or supporting your child from a distance, this is a vital moment to celebrate their growth. Evacuated families, please see the note below specifically for how we will report on your child’s progress.
During these conferences, your child becomes the "star of the show." You will join a small group of families in the classroom, where your child will guide you through their learning journey and showcase their proudest accomplishments from the year.
Unlike traditional parent-teacher meetings, these conferences empower students to take the lead. This process helps children:
Reflect on Progress: Identifying personal strengths and areas for future growth.
Build Confidence: Presenting their work to an audience of those they love most.
Develop Self-Advocacy: Learning to articulate their needs and successes effectively.
Take Responsibility: Shifting from passive learners to active owners of their education.
Your child is already busy preparing by gathering work samples and reflecting on their progress.
The Session: Each family will have dedicated time within the hour to engage with their child and check in with teachers.
Scheduling: Due to the collaborative nature of these group sessions, individual appointments cannot be rescheduled. We appreciate your effort to attend at your assigned time.
Specialists: Please make time to visit our Art, Music, PE, and Arabic classrooms! Specialist teachers will be available to show you what your child has been creating and achieving in their elective subjects.
Conversation Starters for Parents
To help your child deepen their reflection during the session, try asking:
"What are you most proud of so far, and why?"
"What was a 'tough' moment this year, and how did you handle it?"
"What is one goal you want to crush before the school year ends?"
"What is one thing you learned that you think is truly important?"
A Note on Communication: While these conferences are a highlight, our doors are always open. If you have specific concerns you'd like to discuss privately, please feel free to reach out to your child’s teacher via email to schedule a separate check-in.
We look forward to celebrating your child’s growth with you on March 19th!
Progress Reporting for Evacuated Students
At ACS, we believe that learning is driven by responsive instruction and sound assessment. While many of you are currently away from Amman, your child’s growth remains our primary focus.
As we hold student-led conferences on campus, we want to ensure that those of you abroad are kept up to date on your child’s journey. By the end of the day on March 19th, you will receive a brief email update regarding your child’s progress in math, reading, and writing prior to when we moved online.
Please note that these updates will come from your child’s original ACS classroom teacher, rather than their temporary online instructor. Your child's original teacher has the most comprehensive understanding of their performance and growth through March 1st. Please note that our specialist teachers will not be providing written updates, but you are free to contact them if you would like information.
We value our parents as partners in education. If, after receiving the update, you would like to discuss your child's performance further, you are invited to schedule a virtual meeting with their original teacher.
We are proud of the resilience our students continue to show and look forward to our continued partnership in their education.
With Care,
The ES Administrative Team
We are postponing the visit of our incoming ES Principal, Ruth Poulsen, to our campus that was planned for later this month. We hope the reschedule her visit for later this year.
The attached safety flowchart is shared for your information. It may be helpful to share with your children if they are anxious about what to do when sirens sound. In the event of a "Stay in Place" alert, please note the following:
Student Pickup: You may pick up your children directly from their classrooms during the alert.
Bus Departure: Buses will remain stationary until the "All Clear" is given.
Updates: We will communicate new bus departure and dismissal times to all families as soon as they are confirmed.
