Ms. Michelle Alzamora
Dear Families,
We hope you enjoyed the recent break and had a wonderful, restful week! It's great to have our students back in the building, energized and ready to continue their learning journey.
At ACS, our commitment is simple: ensuring every student gets exactly what they need to thrive, both academically and emotionally. For the past several weeks, our students have been actively participating in WIN Time, our dedicated period for truly personalized learning, and we're excited to see the continued growth this fall!
What is WIN Time?
WIN stands for "What I Need." It is a protected, 30-minute block on most days specifically designed to meet your child's individual learning goals. This is not "busy work" or just extra time; it's a powerful and purposeful time for targeted instruction and practice.
WIN Time is where we transform data into direct support and powerful growth:
Data-Driven, Personalized Learning: Teachers use current assessment data to pinpoint your child's specific needs. Whether it's boosting reading fluency, mastering a tough math concept, developing critical social skills, or extending a student who is ready for a greater challenge, this time is customized to accelerate their progress.
A Team Approach: Your child benefits from the expertise of our entire instructional team. WIN Time groups are led by classroom teachers, our dedicated math interventionist, learning support teachers, and instructional assistants (IAs), ensuring high-quality, specialized support.
Focused, Small-Group Instruction: Students work in small groups that allow for more individualized attention and immediate feedback. This supportive setting encourages your child to ask questions, take risks, and build confidence.
Flexible and Fluid Grouping: Groups are flexible and change frequently throughout the year. As your child masters a skill, they move into a new group focused on their next learning goal, keeping the instruction relevant and challenging.
Holistic Growth: We focus on the whole child. WIN Time addresses not only core academic subjects but also essential learning behaviors and social-emotional needs, recognizing that confident, supported children are the best learners.
WIN Time is a priority, and we are dedicated to maintaining it consistently in our schedule. Your child's work during this time will look different depending on their goals, but the focus will always be on accelerating their progress and achieving their full potential.
We look forward to a successful year of helping every ACS student reach their goals!
Warm Regards,
The ES Admin Team
The LC Estimation Challenge 2025!
Students in the Elementary Learning Commons are using math skills to predict how many books will be checked out by the end of November! So far, 4,693 books have been borrowed — and the total keeps growing.
Each class will make an educated guess, and the most accurate prediction will be announced at the Morning Meeting on December 4th.
Grade 3 students are diving into nonfiction books this week — exploring fascinating facts about animals, space, plants, and more! They’re discovering how text features like headings, captions, and diagrams help them learn and understand new information.
