Dr. Jeff Wilusz
Thank you to all that were able to make it to Back to School Night this past Monday. It was great to see all your faces in person! If you were unable to make it, please take a moment to look through the BTSN Presentation and we encourage you to reach out to your kids' teachers.
A Note From Ms. Black in the LC - The American Community School of Amman is a proud member of Global Online Academy (GOA), a nonprofit network of leading schools around the world. Through GOA, high school students can choose from over 65 courses that extend beyond our regular curriculum, allowing them to pursue passions, explore specialized fields, and learn alongside peers and expert teachers worldwide.
Why GOA?
GOA courses are interactive, flexible, and designed to help students develop essential skills such as collaboration, critical thinking, digital literacy, and global perspective. Students may also work toward specialized certifications, which highlight their learning journeys and can strengthen college applications.
What Families Should Know
GOA courses run much like an on-campus course, requiring about 5–7 hours per week.
Students participate through a mix of independent work, group projects, and live sessions.
Regular engagement is essential; deadlines are spread throughout the week.
GOA courses earn ACS credit and appear on student transcripts.
As ACS’s GOA Site Director, I will support your student throughout their GOA experience. I coordinate course enrollment, clarify school policies, and work closely with GOA teachers to ensure students thrive. Please reach out to me if:
You have questions about the enrollment process or course fit.
Your student is experiencing challenges in a GOA course.

College Counseling Program
A huge thanks to all who attended College Night! It was really lovely to see you! For those who were unable to attend, this is the presentation we went through. All seniors’ families are encouraged to schedule a meeting to discuss the college application process further. Our partnership is priceless during this exciting (and admittedly at times stressful) year. If there's ever anything I can do to help or support our seniors, please don't hesitate to let me know.
Our seniors are already very eager to start submitting their college applications. They’ve been busy during the summer finishing up their essays, going on college tours, and finalizing their balanced college lists. We’ll continue the great work over the coming months. Our juniors went through their four year plans, refamiliarized themselves with MaiaLearning, and accessed our college counseling website.
Also, seniors were reminded to start the scholarship application process early. US citizens are reminded to fill out the FAFSA. All students are reminded to fill out the CSS Profile, if needed. Our school is a nominating institution for several university scholarships. Annually, we undertake a confidential internal process to select our nominees. The selection process is grounded in the stated selection criteria outlined by each award. The method of notification varies by scholarship: some nominees are publicly recognized during school assemblies, while others are contacted directly by the awarding university via email.
Social/Emotional Counseling Program
It was wonderful to meet many of you at the HS Back to School Night this week. If anyone has questions, concerns or curiosity about the Social Emotional Counseling program, or if you just want to have a quick chat, don’t hesitate to contact me at ktouchtonleonard@acsamman.edu.jo.
This week I continued with the academic advising sessions for 9th and 10th graders on credits, transitions, and building resumes. The primary aims of this session are:
To normalize the challenges and excitement of the transition to high school.
Highlight common challenges and problem solve strategies for thriving.
Identify hopes and goals for high school, in general, and their current year in particular.
To initiate a credit tracking system to be used throughout HS to ensure they’re on track to meet ACS’s requirements and recommendations of post-secondary institutions.
To begin comprehensive tracking of their academic, athletic, artistic, musical and other extracurricular activities in a centralized space. These activities will then be used to build more formal resumes in grade 11 in preparation for post-secondary plans.
Additionally, I am doing one-on-one check-ins with high school students to see how the beginning of the year is going so far.

To help your child get ready:
Make sure they have proper sports gear and shoes for their team.
Stay on top of communication from coaches and the Activities Office.
Mark your calendars, important dates and travel details as shared on the activities website.
We’re here to support our students every step of the way, and we can’t wait to cheer them on as they compete, learn, and grow together as teams. Let’s make this season a great one!
New Uniforms. New Energy. New Season
Big things are coming to ACS Activities! We’re revamping our uniform policy to make sure our student-athletes represent ACS with pride, on and off the court.
The highlight? The all-new ACS Travel Hoodie, designed exclusively by JoBedu. It’s bold, it’s sleek, and it’s something our athletes will wear with pride wherever they compete.
To make it even more special, we’ll be celebrating with a Uniform Celebration & Media Day! Students will receive their new gear, get professional photos taken, and be featured on ACS social media, showing off their team spirit and the pride of representing our school.
Stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks as we roll out this exciting new chapter for ACS Activities. The energy is building, and we can’t wait to share it with you.
