Dr. Jeff Wilusz
It has been great to see the campus buzzing with energy again as we welcome everyone back for the second semester. As we continue to cultivate agency and tenacity in our students, please remember that our partnership is vital; I encourage you to communicate with us early and often and to check the school calendar & the WGO regularly for upcoming dates like PTCs, Assessment Week, and PTG events. Finally, please look for report cards to be posted in PowerSchool after school next Thursday, January 15th.
Here’s to a fantastic semester ahead!
26/27 Course Registration Parent Information Session (Grades 8-11) - Please join us virtually on Monday, January 19th @ 5:00 p.m. to review our course registration process and to learn about how best to support your children through the selections and ask any questions you may have. You will receive an email with a link on the morning of the 19th.
Military Service Books Update - We are writing to provide an update regarding the issuance of Military Service Books for our eligible male students. The Ministry has provided further clarification, and responsibilities are now divided based on the student's year of birth:
Students born in 2008: Parents are responsible for issuing the book independently. This must be done via the SANAD Application.
Students born in 2007: The school will manage the issuance of these books. To begin this process, students and guardians will receive an email early next week outlining the specific documents that must be submitted to the school.
We will continue to keep you informed of any further updates.
College Counseling Program
Our students didn’t let the winter break go to waste! It was a season of hard work, with Seniors hitting "submit" on their applications and Juniors diving deep into college research.
Seniors: We are officially in the home stretch! Whether you are finishing up those final few applications or ensuring your portals are complete with all necessary documents, stay focused. We have a few more months ahead to wrap everything up.
Juniors: Now is the time to solidify your college lists and finalize your summer plans. If you are registered for the March SAT, keep up the prep!
Mark your calendars: Next week, Juniors will meet with Ms. Kurdi to start building their university lists in Maia.
Stay in touch: Ms. Kurdi is available for individual meetings with both students and parents to discuss the road ahead.
Social/Emotional Counseling Program
Welcome back and Happy New Year! We hope your winter break was filled with rest and fun! As we dive back into the classroom, the energy is high - but, we know the “January Jolt” can feel a bit overwhelming.
Between getting back in the school routing, jumping back into sports, and managing social commitments, finding a sustainable pace is key to a successful second semester. Here are three quick strategies to help you maintain a healthy balance this month:
The “Big Three” Priority List
Instead of staring at a daunting to-do list, identify your Big Three every morning: one academic task, one extracurricular commitment, and one personal or social goal to focus on. This ensures that three of the most vital components of your wellbeing get time, attention, and priority.
Protect your “Offline” Hours
Though spending time on devices may feel relaxing, their use does often interfere with sleep. Try to stop screens 45 minutes to an hour before bed. As you’ve all heard me say many times, quality sleep enables your best performance - academically, athletically, and socially.
Use the “Five-Minute Reset”
The transition from a relaxed break to a rigorous schedule can be stressful. When things feel chaotic, take five minutes between classes or after practice to just breathe or listen to a favorite song. These small moments of mindfulness prevent burnout before it starts.
Finally, as you know, final grades for semester one come out next week. If your grades are not what you expected, please do come and meet with me. We can process how you’re feeling about last semester and make a plan for a strong second semester.
