Mr. Billy Thomas
As we head into May, it is the perfect time for a quick academic pulse check. I encourage all students to take a close look at their current progress in each of their classes and, most importantly, to stay focused on the Assessment Calendar in the Daily Scorpion. With only four solid academic weeks remaining, staying on top of your deadlines and knowing exactly what is on the horizon will be the key to a stress-free and successful finish to the school year.
May is shaping up to be an incredibly busy and exciting month for our community. We have a full slate of activities and celebrations on the calendar, including what is arguably our most significant event of the season: the Grade 8 Moving Up Ceremony on May 18th. This is a major milestone for our oldest Middle Schoolers as they prepare for their transition to High School, and we look forward to honoring their growth, their leadership, and their time with us.
Finally, we are thrilled to host our final MS Social on Thursday, May 7th. The social will run from 5:00–7:00 p.m. for Grades 6 and 7, while our Grade 8 students will get an extra 30 minutes of celebration, staying until 7:30 p.m. While this event is typically a more formal occasion, I want to be very clear: we want every student to be there. Please do not let concerns about formal attire or "the right clothes" keep you from coming. What matters most is that our students are together to celebrate the end of the year and enjoy each other's company.
Last week's MS Community Day was the perfect finale to our Spirit Week, offering a vibrant mix of high-energy games and strategic team-building challenges. Students had the opportunity to step outside their usual social circles, working in diverse groups to solve problems and compete in friendly rotations.
It was particularly inspiring to see our Grade 8 students "step up to the plate"; they modeled true leadership by mentoring younger peers, coordinating group efforts, and ensuring that every student felt included and encouraged. This day was a powerful reminder of what we can achieve when we prioritize collaboration, joy, and the shared strength of our Middle School community.

REMINDER: CAMPUS AFTER HOURS
We know that for many of our Middle Schoolers, the campus feels like a second home, and the temptation to "hang out" after their last class is strong. However, we want to ensure all families are aware of our supervision protocols to keep our students safe. Please note that these protocols have not changed.
Once the school day ends, the campus transitions into a different mode of operation. Please keep the following safety points in mind:
Supervision: We do not have staff providing active supervision in common areas after hours. Having an adult presence is essential for resolving conflicts or addressing property concerns.
Medical Support: The school clinic is closed for after-hours support, meaning immediate professional medical assistance is not available on-site for injuries or emergencies.
Safety Priority: To ensure every student is supported and safe, all students must either be enrolled in a registered after-school activity or depart campus promptly at the end of their last class. If a student is participating in an activity, they are expected to leave campus immediately following its conclusion.
We appreciate your partnership in reinforcing these expectations at home and helping us maintain a secure environment for all our students.
