Mr. Billy Thomas
I hope everyone is able to take full advantage of this 4-day weekend to find some genuine rest and relaxation. These extended breaks are so important for our collective well-being, especially as we prepare for the "last push" toward the end of the school year. I’m looking forward to seeing our students return refreshed, recharged, and ready to tackle these final weeks with the same focus and enthusiasm they've shown all year long.
A quick reminder that Spirit Week is just around the corner! We know how much our Middle Schoolers love this tradition, and we are putting the finishing touches on a week designed to bring some extra joy and "Scorpion Pride" to our halls. We will be officially sharing the specific dates and the lineup of themed activities with students next week, so keep an eye out for those details—it’s going to be a fantastic way to celebrate our community together.
Finally, we are officially two MAP tests down with only one to go, and I have to tell you, our students are doing an amazing job. It has undeniably been a year of unique challenges and transitions, but despite those obstacles, the growth we are seeing in the results is truly unbelievable. It is a powerful testament to our students' resilience and their commitment to their own learning, no matter the circumstances. We are so proud of the effort they’ve put in—one more to go, and we've got this!
In Design Technology, Middle Schoolers are in the middle of their woodworking unit, where they get a chance to take a break from their devices and work with their hands, aiming to build functional products that can solve real-world problems. After sketching their designs, selecting their materials, and formulating a cut list, they are now breaking down their materials using the tools available in the makerspace. Since the students have been trained in the essential makerspace safety protocols, they are empowered to take the lead on their projects, using the resources available.
SPIRIT WEEK & COMMUNITY DAY
Spirit Week (April 19 - 23) isn’t just an excuse to wear pajamas to school—though that’s certainly a perk! We celebrate Spirit Week because we recognize that Middle School can be challenging, and every community needs a moment to pause, let loose, and share a collective laugh. At its heart, Spirit Week is about joy and belonging; during these uncertain times, our kids need that more than ever.
The Theme Days:
Sunday: Pajama Day
Monday: Jersey Day
Tuesday: Teacher/Student Swap Day
Wednesday: Culture Day
Thursday: ACS Spirit Day
Thursday that week will also hold a Community Day, where students will participate in games, take on challenges, and work together to continue fostering a sense of joy and belonging within our hallways. We can't wait to see the creativity and school spirit on display!
SPRING MAP TESTING
Campus students will have their third and final MAP test for this school year next week. There is very little students can do to prepare for these tests other than:
Be well rested (MS children require 8-10 hours of sleep per night)
Have a good healthy breakfast
Have their laptop fully charged
Be willing to try their best
Campus students that were absent for a test this week will complete catch up tests in the coming weeks.
