Mr. Billy Thomas
The end of the first semester is rapidly approaching, and next week marks the peak of our academic term, with many major assessments and final projects due. We want to commend our Middle School students for the commitment and hard work they have shown throughout the semester. Now is the time for a final, dedicated effort. We urge students to use this final stretch to consolidate their learning, organize their materials, and prioritize rest. Adequate sleep and nutrition are just as important as studying. Please encourage your student to do their very best, knowing that this effort concludes a successful first half of the school year.
As we reach the midpoint of our year, we want to ensure, we kindly ask all parents to take a moment to review and strictly adhere to our parent-initiated WhatsApp Group Guidelines and our community pledge. These guidelines are essential for maintaining a culture of respect and privacy both in person and online. Specifically, please remember that naming other students, sharing personal information, or discussing confidential school matters violates these agreements and can compromise the well-being and privacy of our students and families. By following these community expectations, we protect one another and uphold the trust within our school network.
Lastly, the semester break is almost here! We wish all of our families a joyful, peaceful, and restorative holiday season. Whether you are traveling far or staying close to home, please emphasize safety and take the opportunity to disconnect and recharge. This time is precious for strengthening family bonds and resting after a busy term. We look forward to welcoming all of our students back refreshed and ready for a brand new start to Semester Two on Monday, January 6th!
Congratulations to all of our Middle School artists and musicians for the amazing winter showcase! It was a wonderful community event celebrating the hard work of our students and teachers. The art was lovely and the music was inspiring. Thanks to all who participated and came in support!
CAFFEINE & MIDDLE SCHOOL
As students navigate the academic and social demands of middle school, it can be tempting for them to reach for coffee or energy drinks for a quick boost. However, caffeine can negatively affect their developing bodies and academic performance.
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) advises children under the age of 13 to avoid all caffeinated beverages. Below are three reasons why:
1. Poor Sleep and Focus
Caffeine keeps the brain awake for many hours. Lack of good sleep affects mood, learning, concentration in class, and brain development.
2. Anxiety and Jitters
Caffeine makes the heart beat faster which can cause nervousness, anxiety, or "jitters." Adolescents are more sensitive to these side effects.
3. Hidden Sugar
Many popular drinks (lattes, energy drinks) have high sugar content which is linked to health risks (dental problems, weight gain).
We ask for your support in educating our students, and helping them make better beverage choices.
PREPARING FOR SNOW DAYS
As we move into colder weather, we wanted to remind you of our Snow Day process.
If we are notified “last-minute,” there will be no learning expectations set for your children that day.
If we have advanced notice and/or if the snow day extends to multiple days, then Middle and High School students could expect the following:
Online learning from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., regular rotation schedule.
Teachers will post assignments and instructions on Google Classroom by 10:00 a.m., designed for students to work independently at their own pace or synchronously with the teacher present via Google Meet.
During their assigned teaching blocks, teachers will be available online to provide one-on-one support through email, Google Meet, or chat.
We recognize that not all families may be able to participate fully in online learning due to potential outages. Please prioritize your child’s well-being, and know that our counselors are available via email for support if needed.
