Mr. Billy Thomas
As we begin looking toward the 2026-27 school year, we are excited to launch our course selection process. This is a pivotal time for students to reflect on their academic journey and personal growth. We encourage all families to engage in meaningful conversations with their children about their interests, passions, and goals for the upcoming year. These discussions help ensure that each student’s schedule reflects their unique path and aspirations. Please remember that all completed course selection forms are due to Advisory teachers by February 1. We look forward to partnering with you to help our students design a rewarding and inspiring year ahead.
On the social side of things, it’s time to get ready for our next Middle School Social on January 29! Our theme for the night is "Blast to the Past," and we can’t wait to see our students’ creative takes on their favorite eras—whether it’s the neon 80s, the groovy 70s, or even a literal "prehistoric" look. This event is a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together, have fun, and build lasting memories outside the classroom. We encourage everyone to join us for what promises to be a high-energy and nostalgic evening!
Our 6th graders have launched into their Cells & Systems unit! They began by exploring the relationship between structure and function through hands-on engineering challenges, like building spaghetti bridges and testing them to see how much weight they could hold.
This week, students completed their first dissection on a chicken wing. By examining the skin, muscles, and bones, they observed firsthand how these structures work together in a system. The highlight was comparing an intact wing to a broken one, allowing students to see exactly how a change in structure disrupts the wing's function. Next, students will be diving deeper into learning about human cells and body systems.

PREPARING FOR SNOW DAYS
As we move into colder weather, we wanted to remind you of our Snow Day process.
If we are notified “last-minute,” there will be no learning expectations set for your children that day.
If we have advanced notice and/or if the snow day extends to multiple days, then Middle and High School students could expect the following:
Online learning from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., regular rotation schedule.
Teachers will post assignments and instructions on Google Classroom by 10:00 a.m., designed for students to work independently at their own pace or synchronously with the teacher present via Google Meet.
During their assigned teaching blocks, teachers will be available online to provide one-on-one support through email, Google Meet, or chat.
We recognize that not all families may be able to participate fully in online learning due to potential outages. Please prioritize your child’s well-being, and know that our counselors are available via email for support if needed.

Hello ACS Community!
My name is Lori Black, and I’m the Middle and High School Teacher Librarian. This year, we’re on a mission to build a community of readers by sharing our favorite books. Each week, a teacher, student, or staff member will highlight a book they love in hopes of inspiring others to read it too. We will call it ACS Book Talks. I hope you enjoy this new project and discover something wonderful to read!
Here is the video that goes out to everyone.
This is the video for ES.
This is the video for MS/HS.
Please let me know if you have any questions!
Throughout the year we will share some resources / quick reads that we believe would be of interest to our MS Families
