Mr. Billy Thomas
I am writing to share my sincere appreciation for your partnership and to highlight some of the incredible work happening at our school. We recently concluded our Adventure Jordan trips, and I am so proud of our students. These overnight trips were a tremendous success, serving as a powerful opportunity for our students to step outside their comfort zones, build stronger bonds with one another, and develop greater independence. The positive impact on our school culture and community is already evident, and we look forward to carrying this spirit of camaraderie and resilience forward throughout the year.
As we look ahead, I want to remind you that the upcoming October break is an excellent chance for our students to recharge and celebrate their hard work. Please encourage your child to use this time for rest, connection with family, and pursuing hobbies outside of their academic work. Middle school is a time of significant growth and challenge, and a mindful break is essential for maintaining well-being and returning ready to learn. We are excited for them to come back refreshed and ready for the next term.
Finally, I want to set the context for our upcoming Parent-Teacher Conferences. Our focus will be squarely on growth, learning strategies, and goal-setting, not just on grades or performance numbers. Grades are a snapshot, but our conversations will center on the long-term journey: What new skills is your child developing? What are the next steps for a particular subject? We encourage you to approach these meetings with a "growth mindset," emphasizing that ability and intelligence can be developed through effort, good strategies, and persistence. For tips on how to talk to your student about grades in a way that encourages a growth mindset, you might find this article helpful: Parent Tips: Talking About Grades with Students.
Grade 6 Art students visited the Jordan River Foundation (JRF) at the end of their embroidery unit to see how traditional crafts can make a real difference in people’s lives. They learned how JRF empowers women by teaching embroidery skills that help them earn an income, support their families, and preserve Jordan’s cultural heritage. The visit showed students how creativity and craftsmanship can be powerful tools for social change.
PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES
Join us on Thursday, October 16th, from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the “Sting Zone” (1st floor of the pool building) for our Middle School Conferences. This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with teachers and celebrate your child’s learning journey.
There are no sign-ups required—simply come by and meet with teachers. Please plan for a little waiting time, as conferences are held on a first-come, first-served basis.
We encourage all students to attend and take an active role in the conversation about their progress and goals.
Tea and coffee will be available, and Blue Fig will be open throughout the day for your convenience. We look forward to seeing you there!
