Ms. Joelle Basnight
After the much needed rain, Amman seems to be warming up again! And with this change in weather, the flu is making its way around the city. Please keep your children home when sick and communicate with the relevant sectional assistant about such absences. We want to keep our community healthy while supporting students, educationally, when at home recovering.
This week we had our bi-annual “safe haven” drill where our students and employees sheltered in place. If you find yourself on campus and hear an alarm, it will be either (a) a fire evacuation alarm or (b) a safe haven alarm. To someone who rarely hears them, they may sound similar. If you are on campus, hear an alarm and observe people evacuating, please proceed to the field. Everyone will be dismissed when the all-clear is given. If you do not see people evacuating, then enter the nearest internal space, close the door and, if there is a bolt, lock yourself in. Stay in place until you hear “Scorpions, resume normal activities, Scorpions.” This is the all-clear signal.
Next week you will receive the WGO on Wednesday as Thursday, November 27th, is a school holiday.
Families Withdrawing from ACS for the Second Semester
If your family is planning to withdraw from ACS for the second semester, please inform the Business Office and your section office by December 17, 2025. Families who notify us by the deadline will receive a refund for the second semester tuition and bus fees only.
If you have any questions, please contact the Business Office at businessoffice@acsamman.edu.jo.
Staying Healthy During Flu Season
As flu and virus cases increase in Jordan and at ACS, we ask for your help in keeping our community healthy. Please follow the guidelines below to reduce the spread of illness.
Health Center Protocol
If a student is coughing, sneezing, vomiting, or showing signs of illness at school, they will be sent to the Health Center immediately.
Students with these symptoms will be sent home, even without a fever.
Students must stay home for at least 24 hours and monitor symptoms.
If symptoms continue or worsen, it is recommended that the student see a doctor and inform the Health Center.
Returning to School
Students who were sick or sent home must visit the Health Center for a check-up before returning to class.
A written pass from the Health Center must be submitted to the teacher, and it will be required for re-entry to ensure the student is well enough to return.
Health Checklist
Before sending your child to school, check for:
Fever (37.5°C / 99.5°F or higher)
Cough, fatigue, headache, or muscle pain
Shortness of breath
Loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion, or runny nose
Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea
Prevention Tips
Encourage frequent handwashing and use of sanitizer.
Avoid close contact greetings such as hugs or kisses.
Inform the Health Center if your child or a family member is unwell.
Thank you for helping us keep ACS a safe and healthy environment for all. For any questions, please contact the Director of Health Center, Hiyam Gammoh-Jahshan at hjahshan@acsamman.edu.jo.
