Mr. Billy Thomas
As we head into the busy month of March, it’s a perfect time to check in on Middle School homework habits. At this age, the goal of homework is to reinforce learning and build independence rather than create stress. We recommend that students establish a consistent place for study—a quiet space free from the distractions of phones or gaming—to help them focus. This should ideally be a public space where you can help monitor their engagement and stress level. Remember, if a student is consistently spending significantly more time on an assignment than expected, please reach out to the teacher; we want homework to be a productive bridge to mastery, not a marathon.
On a celebratory note, we are incredibly proud of several Middle School students who are representing ACS next weekend in the upcoming SAISA Art and Music Festival, titled "Pieces of Jordan: A Mosaic of Sound and Art." This is a truly special regional event where student-artists and musicians from across the SAISA network will be flying in to collaborate, create, and perform. It is a massive undertaking that celebrates the rich cultural tapestry of our host country while fostering international friendship through the arts. We can’t wait to see (and hear!) the final "mosaics" these talented young people create together.
Last week, the After School Exploration Cooking Club took a memorable field trip to Beit Sitti, the popular cooking school and restaurant. Fourteen students learned how to make Maqluba, Mutabal, and Fatayer from the local women who work at Beit Sitti. The students then joined together around the table to eat the wonderful meal they prepared! This was a perfect culminating event for students who had enjoyed cooking and baking their own creations at school for the last few months, as they truly relished the opportunity to put their skills to use, explore local flavors, and spend time together in a beautiful setting.
MS CONFERENCES
Middle School Spring Conferences
Date Thursday, March 19
Time 8:30am - 3:30pm
Venue Stingzone (1st floor, Pool building)
These conferences are a wonderful opportunity to hear about the growth your child has made since October and celebrate the hard work they are doing. We strongly encourage all MS students to attend and take an active role in these conversations about their progress and goals.
A Flexible, Community Format
Middle School conferences are designed to be welcoming and flexible. Similar to the High School format, no pre-scheduled sign-ups are required - simply drop in at a time that works best for you. This open format creates a lively community feel as families connect with one another while moving between stations.
Planning Your Visit
To make the most of your day, please keep the following in mind:
Time Management: Most of our teachers support up to 75 students. To ensure every family has an opportunity to connect, individual conferences are limited to 10 minutes.
Deep Dives: If you feel a longer, more in-depth conversation is needed, you are more than welcome to request a follow-up meeting with the teacher for another day.
Wait Times: Please allow plenty of time for your visit, as there may be lines for certain teachers and some teachers will need to step away for 20 mins to do their own child's conferences.
Teacher Availability
We recognize that your time is valuable. To help you plan, we are sharing the teachers' scheduled break times below:
RAMADAN HOURS
School hours during Ramadan

Common Sense Carpool Conversations - A podcast series that invites adults and kids to talk about the issues that matter most in kids' digital lives.
You don't have to be a tech expert to give your kid life lessons about digital well-being. The purpose of the podcast is to start discussions in fun, authentic ways and to encourage sharing (including for the adults).
The questions might lead to deeper discussions—or not! Either way, the goal is to nurture empathy, lead with curiosity, and have ongoing conversations that acknowledge we're all in this together.
Two truths and a lie about healthiest tech habits (Grades 6-8)
Throughout the year we will share some resources / quick reads that we believe would be of interest to our MS Families
